The Amplification Project is Sober in the Country’s major project for 2023 and 2024 ...
... a series of powerful, beautifully filmed short videos that showcase a diverse cross-section of rural people sharing their lived experience of cutting back or quitting alcohol.
When establishing Sober in the Country, Shanna Whan spent many years alone, openly sharing her story of overcoming alcohol addiction in the rural space in an effort to get the conversation started around alcohol harm in the bush … not because she thought it was special or unique, but because she knew it was not. Her philosophy was simply to ‘go first’ for as long as it took for others to step up and share their own stories, too.
Shanna dreamed of the day those brave enough to choose a life with less or no alcohol were supported and encouraged instead of stigmatised or questioned. And today, Shanna’s vision is becoming a reality through The Amplification Project.
Shanna is personally on hand to co-direct these stories, with her trademark infinite care and passion for the charity and project.

The Amplification Project would not exist without our sponsors
Filming, editing, producing and sharing these inspirational videos has only been possible thanks to:
- the ongoing support of The Snow Foundation,
